19-year-old sailor found dead with bullet injuries at Kochi Naval Base


The sailor, who came from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, was found dead at one of the security posts where he was on watch.

A seaman was found dead with gunshot wounds at the Kochi naval base on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Thushar Atri, a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.

The sailor was found dead near one of the security posts along the border wall of the naval base, officials said.

“In the early hours of July 6th, a 19-year-old sailor from Aligarh, UP, was found dead in his post with a gunshot wound apparently unloaded from his service rifle. The seaman was used for security tasks at the naval base. A statutory committee of inquiry is appointed. One case of unnatural death has also been reported to the local police, “the Navy Public Relations Officer said in a statement.

The statement went on to say, “Thushar Atri has now been on the service for about a year. On Monday he was transferred to one of the naval base’s parameter posts. Around 2:30 a.m. to 3:00 a.m., a routine inspection team found Atri lying on the floor. He was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead, ”said an official familiar with the incident.

The Ernakulam Port Police have recorded a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
