Two TMC activists were shot dead by villains on the way back from the virtual meeting on Wednesday for the party’s annual Martyrs Day.
The incident took place in Tangramari village, Mohanpur Panchayat, Minakhan district, North 24 Parganas district. One of the dead workers was a woman, the police said. At least twelve others were injured in the bombings.
The deceased were identified as Laxmibala Mandal, 62, and Sannyasi Sardar, 28. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Tensions are high after the shooting in the village.
According to police and local sources, the area belongs to Haroa Police Station in Minakhan constituency. The virtual meeting on the occasion of TMC’s annual program “July 21”, at which Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister of West Bengal, was the main speaker, was broadcast at Tangramari Media Para by Bachhra Mohanpur Panchayat.

Local sources said the villains fired shots and hurled bombs at returning TMC workers after a brawl. Both sides are said to be involved in the conflict.
At least 12 people were injured in the violence. They were taken to Haroa Hospital. Five people were relocated to Calcutta when their condition became critical. There is a huge police force in the village.
Tapan Roy, a Trinamool guide from Mohanpur Village, Bachhra, said, “On that day, a virtual meeting of our guide, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was arranged at the initiative of the Tangramari Stand Committee.”
“On the way back from hearing this meeting, a group of notorious villains from the Mediyapara area insulted our party members. When he protested, they started shooting, ”added Roy.
Lakshmibala Mandal was shot in the stomach and Sannyasi Sardar was shot in the chest. People in the area said that there was a TMC conflict behind the incident. The police have started investigations into the incident.
