Deepak and Bhuvneshwar Kumar hit an unbeaten stand with 84 runs for the 8th wicket while India bounced back from 193 for 7 to take a stunning win. This was also India’s 10th straight win over Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in 10 ODIs.
Sri Lanka vs. India, 2nd ODI highlights
Before Tuesday, Deepak Chahar’s highest ODI score was only 12 and he only had List A fifty, but the Chennai Super Kings bowler looked calm and collected even when the required odds hit 6 with only 3 wickets in the bag. Deepak and Bhuvneshwar were in no rush to team up after India lost Krunal Pandya, who won a 35.

Thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s rapid fire 53 from 44 balls, Chahar and Bhuvneshwar did not feel the pressure on the scoreboard. The bottom two never lost their composure as they cautiously attacked and led India to the finish line.
Deepak Chahar hit the winning streak with one big shot in a dream come true.
At the start of the day India got off to a bad start as they lost opening player Prithvi Shaw and one-down Ishan Kishan early. Captain Shikhar Dhawan was undone by Wanidu Hasaranga, who ended on a 3/37 number, carrying Sri Lanka’s hopes single-handedly with the ball.
New problems for India continue
In the first innings, another late cameo by Chamika Karunaratne helped Sri Lanka grow his total to a respectable 275 for 9 in 50 overs. Karunartne’s cameo had helped Sri Lanka hit 262 in Sunday’s first ODI, but this time the all-rounder hit 5 limits on his 33-ball 44 to punish India once more on death.
India’s trouble striking the new ball was when Sri Lanka added 77 for the first wicket in just 13.2 overs. Bhuvneshwar and Deepak struggled to strike again early as both Avishka Fernando Minod Bhanuka followed the two bowlers.
India made its first breakthrough in the series again through Yuzvendra Chahal, who survived Bhanuka’s wicket on the 14th. Chahal scored in the next ball and sent Bhanuka Rajapaksa with a great variation to 0.

However, Avishka and Dhananjaya de Silva attempted to save the innings with a stable score of 47. Just when Avishka reached his fifty and wanted to move on, Bhuvneshwar struck in his second spell, removing the prelude for 50.
It was Charith Asalanka who scored the highest score for Sri Lanka as the right handed player played an excellent pace in the middle. With 6 limits, Asalanka hit 66 of 68 balls before Karunaratne’s late cameo.
Yuvencra Chahal added another to his record by removing captain Dasun Shanaka for 16, but his co-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya didn’t collect wickets in the middle overs, allowing Asalanka to keep the scoreboard moving in the middle overs.
Chahal ended his odds of overs with numbers 3 for 50 while Bhuvneshwar and Deepak Chahar shared 5 wickets between them despite not hitting with the new ball.
