Sri Lanka showed a clinical performance in the decisive 3rd T20 international match against India to win the game with 7 wickets and win the series 2-1 on Thursday in Colombo. The Lankers stuttered a bit in the hunt for a paltry 82 to win, but eventually managed to scrape across the finish line to claim their first-ever T20I series win against India.
The inexperienced Indian bowling attack couldn’t make a fist out of the match as the target was simply too small to pose a challenge, despite managing to bag three wickets through Rahul Chahar, who won openers Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka for 12 and . returned 18 or Der Beinspinner took 3 for 15 of his 4 overs.
Dhananjaya de Silva (23 not dropped out) and Wanindu Hasaranga (14 not dropped out) finished work on the 15th and helped Sri Lanka achieve their first T20I win in two years. Under Dasun Shanaka, they last won a T20I series against Pakistan in Lahore in October 2019.
India vs. Sri Lanka 3. T20I: Highlights
The defeat also ended India’s 8-series unbeaten in T20 international cricket. It must be noted, however, that this was not India’s full strength as they lost 9 of their regular players in the last two T20Is after Krunal Pandya tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week.
However, the match was launched by Lankan all-rounder Hasaranga, who bagged his first four-wicket hul on his 24th birthday to virtually end the competition in the first half of the Indian inning.
India got off to a bad start when Shikhar Dhawan fell on a golden duck against Dushmantha Chameera in the first round. The dismissal of the skipper triggered a dramatic collapse of the battings, as the young batsmen were unable to attack the Lankan weirdos for the second game in a row.

Devdutt Padikkal was kicked out for 9 before Hasaranga bagged the wickets of Sanju Samson (0) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (14) in the fifth over to reduce India to 25 for 4 inside 5 overs.
Dasun Shanaka then stepped up and made a brilliant catch with his successor, sending Nitish Rana back for 6 before Hasaranga returned to fire Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 16.
It was Bhuvi’s partnership with Kuldeep Yadav that turned out to be the best for India, with the duo adding 19 runs for the 7th wicket to get the team over the 50-run mark.
Kuldeep went on to lead an individual bout from then on, scoring 23 points that weren’t eliminated when India finished 81 for 8 in 20 overs, the third highest total in T20Is and the second lowest by a team after hitting full overs in that format had.
Hasaranga finished his career at 4 for 9 of his four overs, which is also the best numbers for a cricketer on his birthday in T20I cricket, beating the previous record of 4 for 21 by South African leg moth Imran Tahir against the Netherlands during a group match at the T20 World Championship 2014 in Chittagong.
