A man in Andhra Pradesh who was upset about not having a son allegedly killed his two-year-old daughter and left his five-year-old daughter badly injured in a tantrum.

The incident happened on July 9, when two-year-old Pranavi and five-year-old Siri were sleeping at their grandparents’ home in the Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, according to a report in The News Minute.

On the day of the incident, the defendant, identified as Prasad, came to her home and started an argument with his wife. The couple had an ongoing argument and Prasad was reportedly upset about not having a son. He even asked his wife for a divorce.

After this argument, Prasad attacked his daughters. He dragged his two year old daughter out and hit her head against a concrete wall – and killed her. He also pushed his other daughter’s head into a muddy road – but she survived, but sustained serious injuries. His wife escaped unharmed.

Circle inspector Appala Naidu told The News Minute that the couple have two daughters and the husband is unhappy about not having a son, so he forced his wife to agree to a divorce.

Police said the difference between the couple worsened about a week ago and their families needed to step in. His wife had left him and stayed in her village.

The Salur Police Department has recorded a case on the matter under the relevant sections of India’s Criminal Code. The defendant has yet to be arrested.
