Uttar Pradesh police have charged a Bareilly dairy owner with beating and electrocuting five children. The defendant beat the children on suspicion of theft.

Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday rescued five children who were alleged to have been handcuffed, beaten and shocked for several hours by a dairy owner who accused them of stealing his cellphone.

The incident took place in Uttar Pradeshs Bareilly, where the defendant Avnesh Kumar Yadav runs a dairy in the Gangapur area under the Baradari Police Station. Avnesh recently lost his Rs 30,000 cell phone. The defendant suspected that children from the neighborhood had stolen his smartphone, the police said.

On Wednesday, the dairy owner picked up the five children from their homes and tortured them. He tied up the five children, beat them up and, with the help of a few others, even gave them electric shocks with a live wire.

In the meantime, the families of the five children and others stormed the dairy and informed the police. The police arrived at the site and found the children in poor condition. All five were taken to the district hospital for first aid.

One of the underage victims told police that the defendant took her to his dairy where he tortured her. The child said he even refused them water.

Following a complaint, the police charged the dairy owner and several others with torturing the children. SP Ravinder Kumar said police teams were used to arrest the accused.
