BJP gave a soldier’s son chance to become Uttarakhand CM: Pushkar Singh Dhami | Exclusive

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a democratic party that has given a simple soldier’s son the opportunity to become prime minister of Uttarakhand, said BJP MLA Pushakar Singh Dhami, who is 11.

Dhami will take the oath as the new Prime Minister of Uttarakhand at 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Raj Bhawan in Dehradun.

Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to India Today TV for an exclusive interview following his election as Chairman of the BJP Legislature.

“They gave a simple soldier’s son the opportunity to become prime minister of Uttarakhand. The party is my mother,” said Dhami, adding that the party had given him the role of mukhya sevak (main servant).

Regarding the change in leadership in Uttarakhand, he said: “We are a democratic party and we look at the prevailing circumstances. My superiors are more capable than me, but I will try to work with them and move the state forward.”

When asked if the BJP’s prospects in the upcoming polls would be affected by the frequent changes of prime ministers despite a majority in the state, Pushkar Singh Dhami said these developments would not affect the party’s performance.

“A lot of work has happened. People know who worked for them and who played appeasement politics. The 2020 general election is a challenge, but I will turn it into an opportunity,” he said.

When asked about the irregularities during the Haridwar Kumbh Mela, particularly the hundreds of fake Covid-19 tests that were conducted, Dhami said the matter was being investigated.

So will the new prime minister have a new cabinet?

Pushkar Singh Dhami said “homework is on”.

On Saturday, Dhami met with Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya to inform her of his election as chairman of the BJP Legislative Party.

He will take over at a time when the state goes to the elections early next year.
