Centre cites ‘R-factor’, asks states to hold officials liable for failure to enforce Covid norms | 5 points


In a statement on Wednesday, the MHA urged states / UTs to hold officials responsible for non-enforcement of Covid-19 norms.

The Home Office (MHA) on Wednesday issued a warning to states and union territories about “blatant violations” of Covid-19 standards. There is a need to “protect oneself from the complacency and carelessness that crept in” as positivity has waned, the recommendation says.

That recommendation comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the prime ministers of the northeastern states. During the interaction, the Prime Minister had expressed himself great Concern about Indians flocking to popular tourist spots in large numbers.

On Wednesday, India reported 38,792 new confirmed cases of Covid-19. There are now 4,29,946 active cases in the country, according to the Department of Health and Family Welfare’s coronavirus dashboard.
