A Chennai woman died last week after accidentally swallowing her artificial tooth while drinking water.

According to a report, 43-year-old S Rajalakshmi from Valasaravakkam swallowed one of her three artificial teeth on July 4 while she was drinking water. Rajalakshmi was rushed to hospital after complaining of dizziness and nausea, a Times of India report said.

However, she was released after doctors found nothing of concern, the report added.

The next day she passed out and died on the way to the hospital.

The police sent the body for an autopsy. A case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of the Code of Criminal Procedure was registered, the police said.

Police told TOI that they suspect Rajalakshmi’s artificial tooth may have loosened since it was repaired seven years ago.

Rajalakshmi leaves behind her husband Suresh, 48, and their two sons.
