The MLAs of Congress and the Aam-Aadmi Party, which includes the newly appointed President of the Punjab Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu. accompanied in his all-day temple visits on Wednesday, are reportedly on the radar of the Punjab Crime Investigation Department (CID).
The CID officers keeping an eye on those Meet on Wednesday morning at Sidhu’s residence in Amritsar, said only 48 members of the Legislative Assembly were in attendance, up from 62 named earlier. These include three former Aam Aadmi Party MLAs who recently joined Congress.
CID officers in plain clothes were posted around Navjot Singh Sidhu’s residence. One officer introduced himself to the India Today team and said they were “doing their duty”.

According to sources, some MLAs who accompanied Sidhu on Wednesday, as well as their close aides, are currently faced with serious allegations. According to sources, direct and indirect involvement of these members in illegal activities such as illegal mining and liquor trading has been found in the past.
Sources also said Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh briefed the three-member panel appointed by the High Command of Congress about the “rogue elements” within the party. The panel was set up to resolve the discord in Punjab unity.
One of the MLAs is alleged to be involved in illegal mining in the Hoshiarpur area. The mining department had sent him a recovery notice of 1.65 billion rupees in December 2020. This Congressional MLA has reportedly been requested by CM Singh to suspend and lift notice of illegal mining operations. The MLA has also appealed against this.
CAPTAIN OF THE ‘VENDETTA POLITICS’ ACCUSED
Cabinet Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who also accompanied Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday, accused Captain Amarinder Singh of “vendetta politics”. He told the media that he was persecuted and implicated in a wrong case after addressing issues related to the Dalit community.
Meanwhile, former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar, who also accompanied Sidhu to the Golden Temple Complex on Wednesday, said those who visited Darbar Sahib (also asked for forgiveness for the mistakes they had made in the past.
“This is Waheguru jis Darbar. Anyone who shows deference here will be forgiven. All issues will be resolved in the coming days,” said Sunil Jakhar.
WILL THE CAPTAIN ATTEND SIDHU’S CEREMONY?
Also as Captain Amarinder Singh again urged a public apology from Navjot Singh Sidhu for his tweets, the latter along with four working presidents wanted to send him an invitation to adorn his takeover ceremony. Sidhu will lead the Punjab Congress at a ceremony on Friday.
“The letter of invitation has been drawn up and will be signed by Sidhu and four incumbent presidents, including former President of the Punjab Congress, Sunil Jakhar. It will be sent to Captain soon, ”Congress MLA Harjot Kamal told India Today.
Sources said the prime minister is unlikely to attend the ceremony and is still upset with the party’s high command and Sidhu.
They also said that leaders of the party high command including Congress Secretary General Harish Rawat could come to Chandigarh to persuade Singh to attend the ceremony.
