Congress MPs to meet Bajwa in Delhi over Sidhu’s elevation as Punjab chief, discuss farmers’ issue’


Amid the ongoing power struggles in the Punjab Congress, MPs from the states of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will meet on Sunday at the residence of Rajya Sabha member Partap Singh Bajwa in Delhi and call on the Congress leadership not to appoint Navjot Singh Sidhu as head of the state unit appoint, sources said.

The meeting takes place one day after the meeting of Partap Singh Bajwa, Punjab spokesperson Rana KP Singh and cabinet minister Rana Gurmeet Sodhi with Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh at his residence on Saturday evening amid signs of disagreement over the likely appointment of Navjot Singh Sidhu as Punjab PCC chief.

According to sources, the Punjab MPs will meet at 2 p.m. at the residence of the former PPCC chief. They will likely discuss a strategy on the three farming laws and pending payment of the previous buying season to the Punjab farmers detained from the center.

After the meeting, MPs are also likely to request a meeting with the Interim President of Congress Sonia Gandhi.

Regarding Sunday’s plan, Bajwa said today: “We have invited all (Congress) MPs from Punjab to a meeting to develop a strategy on the peasant issue and to discuss some issues related to the Congress Party. There is no divide in the party. The only complaint concerned the fulfillment of promises made by our party. It was a fight for promise, but the media made the tale of Siddhu versus Ama cattle. “

Bajwa meets Amarinder Singh

On Saturday, Congressman Manish Tewari retweeted the photo, saying it was good to see Bajwa and Amarinder together, noting that the MP from Rajya Sabha and the prime minister would make a good team.

“It is nice to see Partap Singh Bajwa and Captain Amarinder Singh together with our Hon’ble Speakers Rana KP Singh and Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi. Partap, who I have known since 1983, and Captain Sahib would make a good team for the times to come “He’s an old dyed congressman,” Tewari said.

Bajwa, a harsh critic of the Prime Minister, visited Amarinder Singh at his residence on the day Navjot Singh Sidhu held a series of meetings with Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar and several MLAs, including the CM’s loyalists.

The sources said the old congressmen and Amarinder Singh were unwilling to accept Sidhu as the head of the state unit.

Both Bajwa and Amarinder agreed to raise the importance of Sidhu in place of the old Congress leaders in the Congress Parliamentary Committee.

“The prime minister and other members of Congress want Pratap Singh Bajwa to take command if the president of the Punjab Congress is to be changed,” sources said.

Sidhu meets Sonia Gandhi

On Saturday, Sidhu met Sonia Gandhi at her New Delhi residence ahead of the party’s Punjab unity renewal and amid reports that Sidhu could play a key role in the organization.

After the meeting, Congress Party leader for Punjab Harish Rawat said Sonia Gandhi does not have to make a final decision on the issue yet and he will share it soon after it is completed

On Friday also Amarinder Singh shot down an angry letter to the president of Congress The party’s high command had “violently interfered in the work of the Punjab government and in the politics of the state.”
