  • Wembley Stadium will host England for the first time in a European Championship final on July 12th

England ended a 55-year wait to make it into the Euro 2020 final on Thursday with a hard-fought 2-1 win in extra time against Denmark in the second semi-final at Wembley Stadium in London. England will meet Italy in their first European Championship final on July 12th at the same location.

Captains of both teams scored a goal – one hit the winner while the other found the back of his own net, much to Denmark’s desperation.

England and Denmark leveled 1-1 in regular time after the guests stopped a cross from Raheem Sterling in the 30th.

ENGLAND VS DENMARK: HIGHLIGHTS

Damsgaard’s goal was the first of this edition by a direct free kick and England’s first goal conceded at Euro 2020. On the other hand, Kjaer’s own goal was the first England to benefit from in Euro history.

No goals were scored in the second half, but both teams created many opportunities. England defender Harry Maguire’s header was intercepted in the 55th minute by goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. A shot by Danish striker Kasper Dolberg was blocked in the 59th minute, but the score remained level.

England’s most reliable player in the tournament, Raheem Sterling, once again made the difference when he stormed into the Danish penalty area from the right and scored a penalty for the Three Lions.

Captain Harry Kane started in the 104th minute, his first attempt was saved by Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, but he used the rebound to seal the deal and become England’s top scorer in major tournaments (European and World Cup) on an equal footing with Gary Lineker on 10 goals.

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN TRIBUTE

England paid a touching tribute to Christian Eriksen on Wednesday evening by presenting a signed shirt for the Denmark star, who was banned from Euro 2020 after suffering cardiac arrest in his team’s opening game last month.

England captain Harry Kane handed over the signed jersey with the number 10 to his Danish counterpart Simon Kjaer shortly before the semi-finals kicked off at London’s Wembley Stadium. Eriksen is currently recovering at his home in Copenhagen.
