Fire at Bangladesh juice factory kills 52, many feared trapped

A major fire in a juice factory in Narayanganj, Bangladesh, killed at least 52 people and injured several others.

The government has ordered an investigation into the cause of the fire.

At least 52 people were killed and several others injured on Friday in a massive fire that broke out in a six-story juice factory in Narayanganj, Bangladesh.

Eighteen fire departments from Narayanganj and Dhaka are on site to put out the fire at the Hashem food and beverage factory.

Eighteen fire departments fought to put out the fire in the Hashem Foods Limited factory building.

The factory caught fire around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Although the fire was almost under control early Friday, flames broke out again on the fifth and sixth floors of the building.

According to the fire department, several workers jumped out of the building to escape the devastating fire. Three of them died from their injuries on Thursday.

People gathered in front of the building looking for their loved ones who were still missing. Of the many missing, the identities of 44 missing workers have been confirmed, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

Relatives of the missing workers have claimed that the factory’s entrance gate and only exit were locked at the time of the fire. They also alleged that the building did not have adequate fire protection measures in place.

“Until the fire is extinguished, it is not possible to tell exactly how much damage has been done and what the cause of the fire is,” he added.

A five-person investigation committee was formed by the county government to investigate the cause of the fire.
