A hilarious video of a man caught sneaking out onto his balcony to sever a cable that was illegally plugged into a power source has gone viral on social media.

In the viral video, the man, who had no idea he was being picked up by an Electricity Department official from the neighbor’s terrace, was crawling on his balcony to cut the wire to clear evidence of an electricity theft.

The incident came when officials from the Ministry of Electricity in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad received information that some residents of the Muradnagar area were stealing electricity by illegally connecting cables to power lines.

A team from the anti-power theft squad was dispatched to raid the area.

When the man in the viral video found out about the anti-power theft squad raid, he decided to crawl to the illegally connected cable on his patio to cut it off, unaware that an electrician was filming him on the patio of the neighboring house.

It was a pitfall when the man, with a knife in hand, crawled to the wire when the official from the Electricity Department said from the terrace: “The main thing is yahi khada bhaiya [I am here, brother].

What left internet users in divisions was the confused look on the man’s face when he was caught red-handed.

Regarding the incident, Muradnagar Ministry of Electricity’s SDO, Abhishek Maurya, said the video was from July 6, adding that the congestion caused by the hot weather resulted in frequent power outages, leading to more incidents of electricity theft.

“The department received complaints about electricity theft. A raid was carried out on the instructions of senior officials that morning,” said Abhishek Maurya.

“On July 6th, a team set out to raid the area. The team reached this house in Muradnagar. There was a knock on the gate, but no one answered. Then a lineman was sent out onto the terrace of the neighboring house. One person then came out onto the terrace of the house in the viral video to clear the evidence of the electricity theft.

He said the Electricity Department filed an FIR on the matter, adding that cases have been recorded for all the thefts the Electricity Department found during the raid.

Raids were carried out in around 15 locations and the thefts of electricity of around 13 kilowatts were picked up by the officers.
