In UP, violence renamed as ‘masterstroke’: Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi slam BJP govt


Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday called on the Uttar Pradesh government to address the alleged incidents of violence and misconduct against women reported during the recent bloc election.

In a tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi said that violence in Uttar Pradesh has been renamed “Masterpiece”. Uttar Pradesh General Secretary of Congress Priyanka Gandhi Vadra claimed that the BJP had crossed all lines to prevent a woman from being nominated in the polls.

“A few years ago, a rape victim spoke out against a BJP legislative act and attempts were made to kill her and her family. Today the BJP went overboard to stop nominating a woman. Same government. she said in a tweet in Hindi.

She allegedly was referring to an incident in Lakhimpur Kheri on Thursday when a The Samajwadi Party candidate was allegedly ill-treated by BJP officials, whereupon six police officers were suspended, and the administration ordered a judicial investigation.

Previously, Priyanka Gandhi shared a video in a tweet on July 8th and alleged that the BJP workers indulged in violence, Prevent candidates from submitting nominations and misbehave towards women and journalists.

In the run-up to the elections for the block panchayat chief, the brother-in-law of a member of the block development committee was killed in Bahraich when he resisted an alleged attempt to kidnap his relative by the husband and supporters of a BJP candidate, the PTI news agency reported.
