India reports 38,079 new Covid-19 cases, 560 deaths in 24 hours


India reported 38,079 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, with 560 people succumbing to the infection in the past 24 hours, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health.

The country’s cumulative case numbers decreased to 4,24,025, of which total recoveries nationwide were 3,02,27,792. Active cases account for 1.59 percent of the total number of cases.

Among all states, Kerala reported the highest Covid-19 cases with 13,750, followed by Maharashtra with 7,761 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 2,345 cases, Tamil Nadu with 2,312 cases and Odisha with 2,070 cases.

These five states accounted for 74.16 percent of the new daily infections reported on Sunday, with Kerala alone responsible for 36.11 percent of the new infections.

560 Covid-related deaths were recorded on Sunday, slightly more than the 542 deaths reported on Friday.

Most casualties were reported in Maharashtra (167), followed by Kerala with 130 deaths in the last 24 hours.

A total of 43,916 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The number of daily recoveries exceeded the number of daily new cases for the 55th consecutive day.

The recovery rate continued to climb to 97.31 percent, while the weekly positivity rate remained below five percent.

According to the Ministry of Health, India carried out 19,98,715 tests the day before.

A total of 42.12,557 doses were administered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of doses administered to 39.96.95.879.
