India vs County XI: Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara have decent hit on Day 3 as warm-up match ends in draw


India’s top batsmen spent some time in the middle in their second innings when their three-day warm-up game against County Select XI ended in a draw on Thursday.

India’s top three batsmen made a decent appearance on Day 3 when their three-day warm-up match against County Select XI at Chester-le-Street in Durham on Thursday ended in a tie.

The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, declared their second innings 192 for 3, with Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari spending some time in the middle, along with in form Ravindra Jadeja who followed his first innings 75 with 51 before leaving .

Mayank and Pujara opened the second innings for India, adding 87, with the former scoring 47 while the latter made 38. Vihari followed in third place and remained unbeaten at 43 after his 84-run partnership with Jadeja.

Irish-born off-spinner Jack Carson took out both Mayank and Pujara’s Indian wickets before visitors with Vihari and Shardul Thakur (6 not out) declared themselves a target of 284 runs for the County Select hunt XI set.

In response, the county team made 31 runs on the board without losing a wicket before the end of the game.

India had 311 in their first innings thanks to KL Rahuls (101) 15th first class hundred and then County XI for 220 with Umesh Yadav (3 for 22) and Mohammed Siraj (2 for 32) starring with the ball.

INJURY STRIKES TO INDIA

India sustained further injury damage on Thursday when all-rounder Washington Sundar was added to the list of withdrawals from the tour due to a finger injury.

Sundar, who played for County Select XI because of the unavailability of some local English players, was hit on the finger by a short ball from his Indian teammate Siraj, which was the possible cause of the injury. It will take at least 6 weeks for him to recover, effectively excluding him from next month’s five-test streak against England.

Sundar is the third Indian player to be excluded from the upcoming series after fast bowler Avesh Khan and opening batsman Shubman Gill. Avesh, who also played for County XI, also suffered a finger injury while Gill returned home on Thursday with a shin injury that incapacitates him for at least 3 months.

The Indians will play one game within the squad from July 28th before facing England in the first Test at Trent Bridge on August 4th.
