  • Selectors have declined the Indian team management’s request to send Shaw and Padikkal to England
  • The Indian team management had the request after the injury of opening player Shubman Gill. posed
  • Abhimanyu Easwaran is already a substitute opener in the Indian test team

The Indian team management’s request to the selectors to send the opening players Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal to the test squad in England has been denied, India Today learned on Tuesday.

The motion came after Shubman Gill’s injury emerged after the World Test Championship (WTC) against New Zealand concluded in Southampton.

Selectors have suggested that management add Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is already on the team as a reserve opener, to the squad.

The Indian team management in England wrote an email asking for a replacement for Shubman Gill. India will host a test series of five games against England from August 4th.

According to the June 28 email, Indian team management has asked openers Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal to join the site, but questions have been raised about whether selection panel chair Chetan Sharma is on the same side as the think tank.

The inquiry had indicated that Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is in the reserves, is believed technically not ready for top-flight test cricket. His choice of Prithvi Shaw and Devdutt Padikkal is also controversial under these circumstances.

This also means that KL Rahul, who has already opened in England, will only be considered for the middle order and not as an opener.

“Shubman Gill has been banned from all UK trials with shin splints, which will take at least three months to heal. The team’s administrative manager sent an email request to former pacemaker Sharma late last month asking for it. ” to send two more openers to the UK, “PTI had quoted a senior BCCI source familiar with the developments.

Both Shaw and Padikkal are part of the limited edition Indian squad that is currently in Sri Lanka for the six white ball games.

While Prithvi Shaw was dropped from the playing XI and later from the England series after his failure in the Pink Ball Test against Australia in Adelaide, Devdutt Padikkal just received his first call-up in India for the Sri Lanka series from July 13th with the first ODI in Colombo.
