Kanwar Yatra may begin in UP from July 25 amid tight Covid curbs


The Kanwar Yatra is likely to begin on July 25 amid strict Covid-19 restrictions in Uttar Pradesh, sources said. In this regard, guidelines have also been issued by CM Yogi Adityanath for devotees coming to Bihar, Uttarakhand and UP.

Uttar Pradesh government sources have indicated that the annual Kanwar Yatra could begin on July 25 amid narrow Covid curbs.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued guidelines for believers visiting Uttarakhand, UP and Bihar for ‘Jalabhishek’.

On the flip side, neighboring Uttarakhand has banned Kanwar Yatra, despite the mountain state reporting a decline in coronavirus cases. In this regard, CM Yogi Adityanath said that the Kanwar Yatra should be completed after discussions with the neighboring states.

He added the whole process should go smoothly and keep an eye on Covid restrictions, although states are loosening the curbs if cases continue to drop.

Last year the government of Uttar Pradesh had the Kanwar Yatra. suspended in the face of the pandemic.

MULTIPLE STATE REVIEW IN UTTARAKHAN

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar held a meeting with police officers from eight states on the Kanwar Yatra in Dehradun on Tuesday. The DGP said: “As in 2020, the Uttarakhand government banned it also this year the Kanwar Yatra. “

Uttarakhand’s newly sworn Prime Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reportedly spoke to Adityanath about the Kanwar Yatra by phone. Dhami may choose to start the Kanwar Yatra after speaking with his fellow Haryana man, Manohar Lal Khattar.

The previous government of Uttarakhand, led by Tirath Singh Rawat, had banned Kanwar Yatra. It had faced earlier Flak for the organization of the Haridwar Kumbh Mela amid the devastating second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
