Weeks after the drone strike in Jammu, the center ordered all security agencies to watch out for objects in flight ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
The Ministry of the Interior (MHA) has mandated stricter compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP), which is designed to deal with threats from subconventional flight platforms such as drones, paragliders, microlights and hot air balloons.
In the guidelines laid down, the DCP of the northern district responsible for the Red Fort can identify the roofs of buildings from which security authorities can obtain an aerial view of the entire district. MHA has also asked to deploy observers on these roofs.
The MHA guidelines also state that such objects will be shot down if they attempt to enter sensitive areas.
The Delhi Police Commissioner Balaji Srivastava had issued orders before the Independence Day celebrations banning the flying of aerial objects such as drones, paragliders and hot air balloons.
This is punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Criminal Code, in the order given. The order will remain in effect in Delhi for a period of 32 days from Friday to August 16 for security reasons.
On June 27, two consecutive explosions occurred at the Jammu Air Force high security station and the Indian Air Force.
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmiri police shot down a drone in the border belt of Jammu district carrying five kilograms of improvised explosive devices (IED).
This came weeks after the deadly drone attack on Jammu Air Force Base near the airport, which used a drone to drop explosives on the station on June 27. A drone dropped two bombs on the IAF in a first attack of its kind. from the station in Jammu, two people were slightly injured.
