Mild earthquake strikes Jhajjar in Haryana, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, North India


On Monday night reports were received of minor tremors in parts of Delhi-NCR. Preliminary information shows the epicenter of the earthquake near Jhajjar in Haryana.

In parts of Delhi and the neighboring Gurugram, slight tremors were felt on Monday night. Reports of the earthquake came in around 10:40 p.m., with several residents of Delhi-NCR reporting minor quakes on social media.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reviewed the reports and confirmed that Jhajjar in Haryana was hit by an earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale at 10:36 p.m. on Monday. The epicenter, 5 km deep, was tracked to a point 10 km north of Jhajjar.

The entire country was divided into different seismic zones depending on the severity of the damage or the frequency of earthquakes.

According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), “Delhi is in Zone IV, which has fairly high seismicity, where the general occurrence of earthquakes is 5-6 magnitude, some 6-7 magnitude and occasionally magnitude from 7-8 has. “

A similar earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8 was reported from Thoubal in Manipur on Monday at 8:20 p.m.

Other parts of the world also reported earthquakes on Monday, including Myanmar (magnitude 3.5) and Bhutan (magnitude 2.9). A 4.6 magnitude earthquake was also felt in China on Monday.

Another earthquake from Strength 3.7 hit Gujarat’s Kutch District early in the morning on Sunday. The epicenter of this earthquake was 19 km north-northeast of Dudhai.

Just last week, another earthquake from Leh had hit 4.6 strength in Ladakh. The epicenter was found at a depth of 18 km.

In February of this year, an earthquake struck Magnitude 6.3 hit Tajikistanki. Strong tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir at that time.
