Rahul Gandhi walks out of House panel meet on defence as chair denies discussion on LAC

Congressman Rahul Gandhi and other MPs from his party left a meeting of the parliamentary committee on defense on Wednesday. Sources said during the meeting that Rahul Gandhi had requested a discussion of the prevailing security situation on the actual control line, but the chairman refused permission.

Sources said Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of national security over Pakistan, the stalemate with China and the Taliban in conquering new territories in Afghanistan.

However, the BJP leader and chairman of the panel, Jual Oram, denied any discussion of these issues, saying that they were not part of the pre-decided agenda.

Rahul Gandhi is also said to have called for the meeting to be convened again, but this request was also rejected. He and other congressmen then left the room.

The parliamentary committee on defense held a meeting to review the work of the various cantonal councils in the country.

Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the panel should not discuss the work of the cantonal councils, but should advise on more relevant and important security issues such as the stalemate with China in East Ladakh and the terrorist threats from Pakistan.

He also addressed the Taliban’s problems conquering new territories in Afghanistan, the growing influence of China in Sri Lanka and the impact of these developments on India.

He said these issues are also more serious and need urgent discussion in the parliamentary body.

According to the PTI news agency, the chairman of the panel, Jual Oram, said that the meeting’s agenda is on the work of the cantonal councils, so the discussion should be limited to that.

Oram was quoted as saying that if a member wishes to have a discussion on other issues, they should follow the procedure and give 14 days’ notice.

He added that neither Rahul Gandhi nor any other member of Congress was present at the previous meeting which decided the committee’s agenda for the year, otherwise their issues would have been taken up.

Rahul Gandhi accused the central government of weakening the country earlier in the day, saying India has never been more vulnerable.

Citing a media report claiming that the Chinese military had once again crossed the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in East Ladakh, he tweeted, “The use of the Indian government’s foreign and defense policy as domestic policy Instrument has weakened our country. India has never been so vulnerable. “

Meanwhile, the Indian army said on Wednesday that neither the Indian nor the Chinese sides had attempted to occupy the territories in eastern Ladakh that they broke away from in February, and that both sides are in talks to resolve the remaining problems in the region . PTI reports.
