A young Dalit in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district was handcuffed to a tree and ruthlessly beaten with a stick on suspicion of being a goat thief. The video of the incident was shared several times on social media.

The incident occurred in Mandalgarh, Bhilwara District. A goat was stolen from someone in the area ten days ago. Locals accused the Dalit youth of stealing the goat and beat him mercilessly.

The youth is said to have been beaten up by some villagers at a Chauraha (intersection). They later tied him to a tree and hit him again with sticks.

The video could be heard as the man screeched in pain, repeatedly claiming that he did not steal the goat.

Mandalgarh police have identified two people – Babu Lal Teli and Bardichand Barhet – who were allegedly involved in the beatings of the Dalit youth and initiated proceedings against them.

Mandalgarh Deputy Police Commissioner Gyanendra Singh said: “We are registering a case against Babu Lal Teli and Bardichand Barhet who beat the youth at the Mandalgarh Police Station.”
