Sasikala, 500 others booked for threatening former AIADMK minister


Former Tamil Nadu Justice Minister has filed a complaint against designated AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, accusing her and 500 others of threatening him and his family.

The designated AIADMK leader VK Sasikala, along with 500 others, was charged with allegedly intimidating a former Tamil Nadu minister. Sasikala, a confidante of the late J. Jayalalithaa, was released from prison earlier this year after serving a sentence in connection with a disproportionate property trial.

Sasikala (66) was booked based on a complaint from former AIADMK minister CV Shanmugam against her and 500 other people. In his complaint to the Roshanai Police Station in Viluppuram, Shanmugam alleged that he had received threatening messages over the phone.

Former Tamil Nadu Minister of Justice and Prison Affairs CV Shanmugam has recently been critical of Sasikala’s leaked audio interviews with AIADMK cadres. He had spoken about the leaked tapes in a press conference on June 7th.

Shanmugam said in his complaint that he has received calls from people threatening him and his family since the press conference. The FIR says Shanmugan has also been threatened on several social media platforms because of his statements about Sasikala.

Sasikala and 500 others have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act of 2000.

The charges against them include Section 506 (1) [Punishment for criminal intimidation; threat to cause death or grievous injury], 507 [criminal intimidation by anonymous communication], and 109 [abetment to crime] of the IPC.

In addition, Sasikala and the other unknown defendants were also booked under Section 67 [publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form] of the IT law.

AIADMK leader and former Prime Minister of Tamil Nadu addressed a meeting in Salemm on Wednesday Edappadi Palaniswami confirmed that a case against Sasikala has been registered.

“Anyone who receives threats will report them [Shanmugam] filed a complaint that he received threat messages over the phone, “said EPS. He continued,” Sasikala is not part of AIADMK. We have already told you that.
