Sharad Pawar meets PM Modi, says no politics was discussed

The Colonel of the National Congress Party (NCP), Sharad Pawar, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his residence on Saturday for a nearly one-hour tete-a-tete. This was also the first personal meeting of the NCP boss with PM Modi since 2019.

The meeting between Sharad Pawar and PM Modi is significant as it takes place amid the resentment within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra, a triangular alliance formed by Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress.

After meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Sharad Pawar said that no policy was discussed between the two.

what PM MODI, PAWAR TALKED about

Sharad Pawar had previously written to PM Modi saying that the existence of credit unions and their cooperative nature should be protected. During his interaction with PM Modi on Saturday, Sharad Pawar said he had taken time to write the letter about credit unions, which are now overseen by the Reserve Bank of India.

In light of the banking regulation rules approved by Parliament in September 2020, Sharad Pawar told Prime Minister Modi that this encroaches on the rights of the state, as cooperative banks are the remit of the state government.

Recently, the Center set up a new Ministry of Cooperation under Union Minister Amit Shah.

Sharad Pawar said he also spoke to Prime Minister Modi about the Covid-19 situation in India ahead of the bipartisan meeting on Sunday. He will also be part of the meeting.

Sharad Pawar, a seasoned leader widely known for his political acumen, is the main architect of the ruling MVA coalition in Maharashtra and is considered the linchpin of any future opposition alliance against the BJP.
