Senior leaders in the Trinamool Congress wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday calling for the removal of Indian Attorney General Tushar Mehta for his meeting with the BJP opposition leader in the West Bengal Congregation, Suvendu Adhikari.

However, Attorney General Tushar Mehta said Suvendu Adhikari came to meet him at his Delhi residence, but was unable to meet the BJP leader due to time constraints.

In the letter, TMC MPs Derek O’Brien, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Mahua Maitra stated that the meeting between Attorney General Tushar Mehta and Suvendu Adhikari “not only smells of inappropriateness, but also has a direct conflict of interest and the position of the second highest Judicial officer of the country, the Attorney General “.

The TMC MP said the attorney general for the CBI appears before the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court in the Narada case, and also acts as an advisor to the CBI in the Saradha Chit Fund fraud. Suvendu Adhikari is charged in the Narada and Saradha cases and is currently under investigation.

In order to preserve the “neutrality and integrity” of the office of the Attorney General of India, the necessary steps have been taken to remove Mehta from office, the TMC MPs said in the letter to the Prime Minister.

TMC MPs also claimed that the meeting was between Adhikari’s meetings with Interior Minister Amit Shah.

Lawyer General questions clarification

In response to the TMC’s letter to PM Modi, Attorney General Tushar Mehta said: “Suvendu Adhikari came to my apartment chamber yesterday at around 3:00 pm, my staff asked him to sit in the waiting room of my office building and offered him a cup of tea. When my session was over and my PPS informed me of his arrival, I asked my PPS to report my inability to Mr. Adhikari, meet him and apologize for having to wait. Mr. Adhikari thanked my PPS and left without insisting to meet me. The question of my meeting with Mr. Adhikari therefore did not arise. “
