The highly anticipated draws for the upcoming T20 World Cup will be announced on Friday, India Today has learned.

The announcement will be made in a ceremony around 3:30 p.m. in the presence of BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Board Secretary Jay Shah, and other ICC officials.

The exact schedule will take another week, but the groups will be announced tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if arch-rivals India and Pakistan, who won the first two editions of the tournament, are in the same group.

In particular, the flagship event was relocated from India to the United Arab Emirates and Oman in the course of the coronavirus situation in the country.

However, the BCCI will continue to host the event, which will now take place in four venues at Dubai International Stadium, Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah Stadium and Oman Cricket Academy Ground.

The first round of the tournament, consisting of the eight qualifying teams, will now be split between Oman and the United Arab Emirates. Four of these teams then make it to the Super 12 round, where they take part in the eight automatic qualifiers.

The upcoming edition will be the first men’s T20 World Cup since 2016, when the West Indies beat England in the final in India. The 8 teams competing in the preliminary round are Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman and Papua New Guinea before the play-offs and finals begin on November 14th.

The Indian team and players from other countries are expected to land in the United Arab Emirates from September, as the BCCI will also host the remaining games of the IPL 2021 in the golf nation. The corona batting season should resume from the third week and end shortly before the start of the T20 World Championship. The final test match between India and England will take place in Manchester from September 10th to 14th.
