A seven-year-old Taiwanese boy who was in a coma for over two months after being repeatedly knocked down during a judo class has died, a hospital said Wednesday.

The boy, identified only by his family name Huang, was taken to Feng Yuan Hospital in downtown Taichung on April 21 after he was reportedly thrown 27 times by his judo trainer.

He was in a coma for 70 days with cerebral hemorrhage and developed breathing problems and multiple organ failure before his parents decided to take life support from him on Tuesday, a hospital official told AFP.

His coach, identified by his last name, Ho, was charged earlier this month with seriously injuring children and using children to commit a crime, prosecutors said in a statement.

The trainer instructed other children to practice with huang even if the boy was not familiar with the basic judo moves, and he started using several throwing techniques on the child after saying “the trainer is a big idiot” is called it in the statement.

The boy complained of a severe headache, but Ho threw him a dozen more times, causing him to vomit, he added. The trainer did not stop until Huang collapsed on the floor, prosecutors said.

Local media quoted his family as saying he had been thrown about 27 times. Prosecutors said his head hit the floor repeatedly but did not say how many times.

Huang pleaded with the trainer several times to stop and said he couldn’t take it anymore, according to Central Taiwan News Agency. The boy’s uncle is said to have attended class but cannot stop the trainer.

“I wish you can rest in peace in another world and the judicial system can finally comfort your family,” said Taichung City Mayor Lu Shiow-yen, who visited the boy in the hospital, in a post on her Facebook Page.
