An Indian-American engineer and entrepreneur challenged a Republican leader in his own backyard when applying for the House of Representatives. Shrina Kurani, who was born in Riverside, California, to Indian immigrants, will run against incumbent Ken Calvert in the November 2022 midterm elections. She will compete on a democratic ticket.
28-year-old Shrina Kurani, a high-ranking outsider, does not see herself as a politician; rather, she wants to be seen as a “fact-based problem solver”. Shrina Kurani took the plunge into politics after realizing that Republican Ken Calvert was no problem solver and it was time for a fresh approach and bold action.
I’m running for Congress in CA-42! It’s time for fact-based solutions and bold action. So let’s build an inland empire together where people feel safe, heard, and healthy and have the opportunity to thrive. DONATE NOW to help me flip CA-42 blue! >> https://t.co/VVtvzDtdby

“As a first generation American, my family worked together here in Riverside to build a successful pool utility company. My parents didn’t take a single day off for 10 years, but even this hectic pace is often not enough these days. Opportunities are out of reach for far too many people as Washington career politicians like Ken Calvert focus on helping themselves, their political parties and their corporate donors, “she said.

Beat her opponent, she added, “Ken Calvert has been in Washington for nearly 30 years and has consistently voted against our interests. I’ve spent my career building companies that reduce waste and create quality jobs. “
The odds are good against Shrina Kurani. Ken Calvert is a 15-year-old Congressman, and the Riverside Congressional District it runs from is a Republican bastion where the party currently has a 6.2 point registration advantage. She will also face off against Democrat Brandon Mosley, who already has a list of endorsements in his kitten.
However, she is determined to “do things better in Washington and build an inland empire where people will feel safe, healthy and have the opportunity to do their jobs successfully”.
