Tokyo Olympics: Swimmer Ariarne Titmus beats Ledecky again to win 2nd gold, Milak wins in 200 men’s butterfly


Australian Ariarne Titmus won her second gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, while Hungarian Kristof Milak rose to the men’s 200m butterfly gold medal.

Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus beat American rival Katie Ledecky and won her second gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the women’s 200m freestyle, while Hungary’s Kristof Milak won the 200m butterfly today and set an Olympic record time of 1: 51.25 and with it Michael Phelps broke the record of 1: 52.03 in Beijing in 2008.

Titmus cuts around Ledecky again

Titmus won in a time of 1: 53.50 ahead of Siobhan Haughey from Hong Kong, ahead of the Canadian Penny Oleksiak. Ledecky, the reigning gold medalist and five-time Olympic champion, finished a disappointing fifth, 1.71 behind Titmus.

Once again, the 20-year-old Titmus, known as ‘The Terminator’, delivered a brilliant final lap – she had finished third in the 150 m corner with Haughey in the lead.

Titmus beat Ledecky to gold in the 400m freestyle on Monday, making her the first Australian to complete the 200-400 Olympic doubles at the 1972 Games in Munich since Shane Gould.

Milak wins the men’s 200m fly

Milak lived up to his reputation as a strong favorite in the men’s 200m flight, winning with 2.48 points ahead of Tomoru Honda from Japan, while Federico Burdisso from Italy took bronze.

The current world record holder had taken an earlier lead against South African Chad le Clos in the first half of the race, but stayed in front of the field on the final lap and hit the wall first, followed by Japan’s silver HONDA Tomoru and Italy’s Federico Burdisso, who took third place.
