The bitter dispute within the armed forces over the four proposed theater commands escalated further when the Chief Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria of the Indian Air Force (IAF) rejected the views of the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat that the IAF remains a supporting arm just like artillery or engineers support the fighting forces.
Speaking to India Today TV, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria said, “It’s not just a supportive role. The air force plays a major role. In none of the integrated combat areas is it not a question of support alone, things flow into every flight plan that is drawn up. And these are the issues that are being discussed. “
“CDS was a big reform. The next big reform is integrated theater management. And it’s much more complex. We are in favor of the establishment of an integrated theater management. But the issues that we have touched on are in our internal discussions and we have to do it right. It’s the main reform that affects warfare, “said Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria.

He gave his vision for the integrated theater command. “We already have a functioning system today. But if we do an integrated task force, we should reach the next level of ability to protect our broad national might. We should be able to create synergies, we should be able to create a power that is “more synergetic and flexible. We can’t have more borders, “said Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria.
He said he did not want to share the issues under discussion, but denied that the IAF had set any wrenches.

He said the IAF was fully committed to the theater command. “But we have to do it right. And that is the focus with which we make all our considerations,” said Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria.
“I will not go into listing my concerns in front of the media. There is a proposal. It is there. There are issues that need to be discussed,” he said.
Previously, during his interview with India Today TV, General Bipin Rawat had said: “Do not forget that the IAF continues to be a support arm, just as artillery support or engineers support the combat arm in the army. You will be a support arm. “
General Bipin Rawat said the Air Force was responsible for air defense across the country, but along with it was also assigned to assist the land forces in their airborne operations.
