Will move Supreme Court if Kerala doesn’t back Bakrid relaxations: IMA

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Sunday called on the Kerala government not to make room for mass gatherings in the state on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha or Bakrid amid the devastating Covid-19 pandemic. The panel warned that if the state does not reverse the easing, it will postpone the Supreme Court.

The Kerala government announced a three-day series of easing of the Covid-19 curbs for three days in the face of the Bakrid on July 20. In response to the development, IMA asked Kerala not to relax Covid-19 restrictions on religious gatherings, especially if it is one of the few Indian states where many new cases are still emerging.

The Medical Association also kept examples for northern Indian states such as Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, this year’s Kanwar Yatra. canceled because of the corona pandemic.

“With the dedicated and dedicated services of the government and the modern medical profession, we are in the declining second wave phase across the country today, except in a few states like Kerala and Maharashtra where we still have the high number of cases.” said the IMA in a statement signed by its President Dr. JA Jayalal and Secretary General Dr. Jayesh Lele.

“IMA is sad to see the Kerala government issue an order to ease the persecuted lockdown under the guise of Bakri Id religious gatherings, amid the rise in cases and seropositivity. This is unjustified and unjustified at this time of medical emergency inappropriate. ” .

“If many northern states like J&K, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal have discontinued the traditional and popular pilgeryatras with a constructive sense of public safety, it is unfortunate that the learned state of Kerala made this decision that caused the wave of mass gatherings,” added the IMA added.

“IMA, the body of warriors of this Covid war with a sense of altruism, will be forced to topple the pedestals of the Supreme Court if the state does not enforce Covid-appropriate behavior and will become a model state to deal with the growing threat Covid to prevent withdrawing the decision, “the IMA said, warning the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government of Kerala.

Before that IMA had raised concerns about mass gatherings across the country due to the reopening of tourism and religious pilgrimage. Mass gatherings can act as “super spreaders” for the third wave of Covid-19 infections, the IMA said in a letter to the central and state governments.

“It is painful to notice that at this crucial time [when] Everyone has to work to contain the third wave, in many parts of the country both the government and the public are complacent and attend mass gatherings without following the Covid protocols, “the IMA said in a letter.

The medical association had asked the governments to strictly enforce Covid-compatible behavior for at least another three months. “Tourist bonanza, pilgrimages, religious fervor are all needed, but it may be a few more months,” the body said.
