HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jadeja is the fifth Indian cricketer to have 2000 runs and 200 wickets in Test Cricket
  • Jadeja reached the milestone during his brave half century against England
  • Jadeja joined Kapil Dev and Imran Khan in the elite list of all-rounders

India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja joined an elite roster of cricketers when he completed the Test double of 2,000 runs and 200 wickets during his brave 56-run hit on the wet third day of the Opening Test in Nottingham.

Jadeja is the 5th Indian cricketer and the 21st player overall to have 2000 runs and 200 wickets in test cricket. Kapil, Ashwin, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh are the others. Jadeja hit the milestone with a limit and helped India take the lead in the first innings.

Jadeja completed the 2000 runs and 200 wicket combinations in just 53 tests, ranking among England’s Ian Botham (42 tests), India’s Kapil (50 tests), Pakistan’s Imran Khan (50 tests) and India’s Ravichandran Ashwin (51 tests).

Jadeja stayed behind to build on that lead, reaching eight limits and one six in his half century, which he celebrated with the typical bat swirl.

Meanwhile, India rode off KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja for half a century to take a manageable 95-run first-innings lead over England on rainy day three of Friday’s opening test. The hosts were 25 without a loss, still 70 back in their second innings when play was abandoned for the day just five overs after the tea break.

The first match of the Five Tests also marks the beginning of a new World Test Championship cycle
