England gave India a more challenging challenge on day two of the second test at Lord’s, with Joe Root leading again. England bowled India for 364 in their first innings before replying with 119 for 3 at the end of the game.
Joe Root remained undefeated on 48 with Jonny Bairstow for the company on 6 not with the hosts nor 245 runs behind the guests.
England vs. India Lord’s Test, Day 2: Highlights
Root and Rory Burns added 85 runs for the third wicket, which brought England back into the match after Mohammed Siraj knocked opener Dom Sibley and young Haseeb Hameed off consecutive balls in the first over after the tea break.
Burns was fired for 49 by Mohammed Shami in the last half hour of the final session.
ANDERSON VOTES 4th FIVE FOR VS INDIA AT LORD’S
Anderson’s name will appear on Lord’s famed Honors Board for the seventh time in his career after piecing together numbers 5-62 at the home of cricket when England roared back into the game.
India only added 88 runs to their dominant overnight score of 276-3, losing four wickets before lunch and another three in the opening hour of the second session.
Anderson took two of those wickets after lunch, caught Ishant Sharma lbw for 8 and took an advantage from Jasprit Bumrah (0) when caught behind him.
England’s record wicket taker now has 626 in a testing career that shows no sign of slowing down. Anderson also has 31 five-wicket hauls.
And he even made a catch to remove Ravindra Jadeja from Mark Wood’s bowling for 40, ending India’s disappointing finish with an inning that looked in great shape by the end of Day 1.
Before lunch, KL Rahul – India’s overnight century maker – had dropped out for 129 on the second ball of the day when he shot a loose shot straight at Ollie Robinson.
Failing to increase his nightly score of 1, Ajinkya Rahane went to the first ball he faced, displacing Anderson on the first slip to Joe Root.
That reduced India to 282-5 before Rishabh Pant entertained the crowd with some typically eye-catching shots – at one point he ran down the track and hit Wood with extra cover for four.
But Pant then hit pace-bowler Wood and sat back with Jos Buttler after making 37 balls out of 58.
Mohammed Shami went without goals in the next over and hit Rory Burns on the side of Moeen Ali’s leg.
