England vs. India 2nd test: Highlights of day 1

Rahul was part of a 126-run record opening stand with Rohit to lay a solid foundation in the first innings before adding 117 with Kohli to help India consolidate its start.

Rahul negated early cloudy conditions on a challenging surface during the visiting team’s first 100-run opening grandstand since the 2007 Tour before becoming the first centurion of the second edition of the World Test Championship (WTC).

Rahul picked up where Rohit left off in session two, hitting 12 limits and a six during his near-perfect innings.

Rohit, meanwhile, mastered the English tempo bowlers early threat to share a record 126 runs with KL Rahul on a rain-hit opening day of the second Test against England in London. Their 100-run opening partnership was the first in a test match for India at Lord’s since 1952.

ANDERSON DELIVERS AGAIN

Just as Rohit was on course for his eighth century testing and a spot on the honors boards at the home of cricket, Anderson got one to push the seam back and go through the gate of the right-handed opener to hit the top of the stump.

That ended an opening 126-run partnership and 21 balls later Anderson struck again when Cheteshwar Pujara fell to nine after displacing an outswinger against Jonny Bairstow on the third slip to leave the guests at 150-2.

Previously, England had won the throw and decided to bowl first at the home of cricket on a morning of changeable weather. Morning showers meant the start of the game was delayed 30 minutes before a mix of sunny and cloudy conditions, which proved extremely helpful for the Seam Bowlers. Lunch was also taken early because of a short shower.

India’s inaugural games played steadily through a challenging start and looked good when a rainy season interrupted play and ended the first session prematurely.
