The Prime Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said there could not be a solution to the decades-long border dispute between the states overnight because the issue was very complex. The CM said this on Monday while saying that peace and tranquility have been restored to the common border with Mizoram.
While Sarma mentioned that the dispute dates back to British times, he told PTI that Assam had spoken to other states as well. He blamed the congressional government for failing to draw clear lines in the formation of new states.

Assam CM meets PM modes
Sarma, who is on a four-day visit to the state capital from Saturday, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Monday.
“Mizoram claims the forest of the inner line based on the notice issued by the British in 1870. Assam believes that there is a constitutional limit and Mizoram asks about the historical limit. Assam protects its constitutional border, ”the BJP leader told PTI.
However, the Prime Minister mentioned that the border dispute between the two states had been resolved.
About the discussion
“We have discussed and settled the issue for the time being. I am in contact with the Prime Minister of Mizoram and speak to him at least twice a day,” the Prime Minister of Assam, Himanta, told PTI.
Sarma said there were problems related to “our borders over the past few decades” and last September “suspicions and differences” had increased between the two states leading to this violent incident, but now the situation is peaceful.

“The governments of Assam and Mizoram have issued a joint declaration in which they urge peace and quiet. From now on everything is normal, traffic is moving as usual to Mizoram. I can say that from now on the situation is normal, peaceful and there is no tension, “said Sarma.
The Prime Minister of Assam accused Congress of not properly delimiting the borders, saying: “Congress never wanted a unified Northeast, so it left us to fight for our borders. So over time, distrust has grown. Now let’s try to solve it. “
Northeastern states are different from one another, but they also have similarities. To resolve the disputes, “we need to look at what we have in common,” said Sarma.
Looking for a long-term solution
“We, the northeastern states, are talking to each other and a long-term solution can be reached if we discuss the issue. At some point on the table we could resolve it,” said Sarma.
