The Calcutta Supreme Court ruled on Thursday in a setback for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal a CBI investigation into murder and rape cases related to alleged acts of violence, according to a state survey.
TMC boss Saugata Roy expressed his disappointment, told the ANI news agency: “I am dissatisfied with the verdict. If the CBI intervenes in every legal and regulatory matter that falls entirely within the competence of the state government, this is a violation of the rights of the state. “
I am sure that the state government will assess the situation and, if necessary, appeal to a higher court, added the TMC boss.
I'm unhappy with verdict. If in every law&order matter which is entirely within State govt's jurisdiction the CBI comes in it is transgression on State's right. I'm sure state govt will judge the situation&take a decision to appeal to a higher court if necessary:Saugata Roy, TMC pic.twitter.com/oHdTO9PEWF

The BJP, meanwhile, welcomed the court ruling on post-election violence in Bengal. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said there is no place for violence in a democracy, adding: “We welcome the court’s decision. In a democracy everyone has the right to spread their ideology, but nobody is allowed to spread violence. “
BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya went on to claim that the violence in May took place under the protection of the TMC government.

“The post-election violence in West Bengal took place under the protection of the state government. The order of the Calcutta Supreme Court has exposed the government. We welcome the court decision, ”said the BJP General Secretary.
The reaction came after the HC ordered CBI investigations into serious cases of suspected violence following the West Bengal survey. The bench of five judges also ordered the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate all other crimes related to the alleged post-election violence.
Both investigations are monitored by the court.
