CBI announces Rs 5 lakh reward for information in Jharkhand judge death case


The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for each person who has any information in the Hit-and-run death of the Jharkhand judge.

The CBI has posted posters all over Dhanbad saying that the informant’s name will be kept secret.

“Uttam Anand, Judge for Additional Sessions, Dhanbad, was allegedly murdered around 5am on July 28, 2031 after being hit by a car near Randheer Prasad Verma Chowk, Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The investigation into the case is being carried out by the CBI in Dhanbad, ”said the CBI reward poster.

“If a person has important knowledge / information related to this murder, they can inform the CBI, Special Crime – 1, New Delhi, Camp CSIR Satkar Guest House, Dhanbad, on the telephone numbers (7827728856, 011) – 24368640, 011 – 24368641). A cash award of Rs 5 lakh is paid to a person who provides valuable information regarding the crime. The informant’s name is kept secret, ”he added.

On August 4th, the CBI had registered an FIR in hit-and-run deaths District and Sessions Court-8 Judge Uttam Anand, a Dhanbad judge, on instructions from Jharkhand High Court.

The 49-year-old judge is said to have been mowed down by a heavy auto rickshaw on a morning walk in Dhanbad on July 28.

CCTV footage showed the judge was jogging on one side of a fairly wide street near Randhir Verma Chowk when a heavy auto rickshaw pulled up on him, hit him from behind, and fled the scene.

Locals took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

The government of Jharkhand had set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to resolve the case. The judge’s family members suspected the death before the state government.

CBI investigation into defendant extended

On August 11, a court in Dhanbad extended the CBI’s pre-trial detention for another 10 days to complete the investigation.

The CBI had submitted the two to the court of the CBI Special Judge Shikha Agrawal, who requested the extension, whereupon the prayer was granted.

On August 7, auto rickshaw driver Lakhan Verma and his accomplice Rahul Verma were detained for five days by the CBI.

The CBI also performed forensic psychological tests on the two defendants charged under IPC Section 302 (murder).

It also recreated the crime scene on Saturday at the scene of the incident at Randhir Verma Chowk in Dhanbad.
