The top leaders of at least 14 opposition parties will meet virtually on Friday evening for a major show of strength. The meeting was convened by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Among the leading opposition leaders attending the meeting are the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, and the President of the Nationalist Congress Party, Sharad Pawar.
However, invitations to the meeting were not sent to the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
JOINT PARTIES TO JOINT RESOLUTION
According to sources, the opposition leaders are likely to issue a joint resolution or statement during the meeting. The resolution will be a critical assessment of the Government performance modes during the pandemic.

Opposition unity after the monsoon session
The meeting aims to promote the unity of the opposition recently concluded monsoon session of parliament. The four week session saw a new one united opposition led by the leader of the Congress Party in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge. The presence of Rahul Gandhi intensified efforts to unite the opposition in both houses of parliament.
The meeting called by Sonia Gandhi for Friday is also seen as a move by the Gandhi family to reassert their position as the central figure of the opposition. Congress chief Kapil Sibal had thrown a dinner Party on August 9th, attended by several opposition leaders. However, the Gandhis were not invited.
