A cylinder explosion in a “mini truck” in Karachi, Pakistan, killed at least ten people on Saturday. Many were injured in the incident that occurred in the Mawach Goth neighborhood.
According to a report in Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the truck was carrying 20-25 people at the time of the explosion. The passengers had returned from a wedding ceremony, said a senior police officer.
Initially, officers recovered seven bodies from the site of the explosion before being taken to a local hospital. Three more bodies were later found during the search and rescue operation. The rescue team said that at least 10 other people were injured.
The newspaper reported that Karachi administrator Murtaza Wahab had already searched for details about the explosion. An investigation has already been launched to find the cause of the cylinder pressure.
Sindh’s Prime Minister Murad Ali Shah asked the Ministry of Transport for a report on the “mini truck”. He asked if the vehicle was registered in Sindh or if it belonged to another province.
The Prime Minister also urged the Minister of Health to move the injured to a better hospital in Karachi for treatment.
