An Afghan senator was among them 168 passengers evacuated by IAF when they tried to flee Afghanistan, which is now under the control of the Taliban. Senator Narender Singh Khalsa burst into tears upon landing in New Delhi on Sunday.

The C-17 carried 168 passengers, including 107 Indians, from Kabul to New Delhi amid the tense security situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban took over the country.

In the meantime, seven Afghan civilians killed in the crowd near Kabul airport as desperate Afghan and foreign nationals tried to flee the country.

The UK Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Sunday that “conditions on the ground remain extremely challenging, but we are doing everything we can to handle the situation as safely as possible.”
