The security advisory said that Indian journalists arriving in Afghanistan to report on the ground are at additional risk and should take appropriate security measures during their stay and movement.

On a day when the Taliban took control of three more provincial capitals in Afghanistan, including Herat – the third largest city in the country –and advanced towards the capital, Kabul, India has issued a safety notice for Indian nationals in the war-torn country, especially journalists.
The Indian Embassy in Kabul said recent incidents in Afghanistan involving Indian nationals showed they were the Security advice from the embassy and “continue to put their lives in danger”.
“A recent case that required an air rescue from three Indian engineers who stayed on a dam project in an area beyond the control of government forces has revealed that Indian nationals who receive advice from this embassy should not follow their advice and continue to put your life in danger, “the report says.

It urged all Indian nationals to “fully comply” with the steps in the safety advisories issued from time to time.

The embassy drew “special attention” to Indian journalists arriving in Afghanistan to cover the ground and said they were advised to take additional security measures while staying and moving around the country.
In relation to Death of the Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui (without naming him) who was killed by the Taliban During his reporting assignment for Reuters in Afghanistan last month, the consultant said: “As a recent tragic incident has shown, the public profile of Indian journalists in Afghanistan carries additional risks.”

It stated that Indian journalists should take additional security measures for their stay and movement within Afghanistan, “including binding interviews and scheduled reporting prior to their arrival in Afghanistan”.

The report states that Indian journalists should identify established security logistics companies that can take the necessary security precautions for their stay and movement in the country.
