Himachal Pradesh landslide kills 10, injures 14; PM Modi expresses grief | 7 Points 


Ten people lost their lives and 14 were saved after a landslide against a bus in Himachal Pradesh Kinnaur on Wednesday. The bus that was en route from Kinnaur to Haridwar was buried under the rubble along with a few other vehicles. The rescue operation was extremely difficult because of the shooting rocks and the nature of the terrain.

On July 25, nine people were killed and three others injured in multiple landslides near Batseri, Kinnaur district. Similarly, on July 27, at least eight people died, two were injured and two were missing in flash floods triggered by a downpour in Lahaul-Spiti district.

HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS

1) RESCUE MEASURES: Rescue workers struggled to complete the operation before dark, attempting to recover survivors and bodies from under the rubble near the village of Chaura in the Nigulsari area of ​​Nichar Tehsil. Hours after the landslide, Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussain Sadiq said 10 bodies were pulled out but they fear more people are trapped.

2) Eight out of ten found dead were trapped in a Tata sumo taxi. according to State Disaster Management Director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta.

3) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the incident and spoke to Thakur about the bailouts. “The Kinnaur landslide tragedy is very sad. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives. May the injured recover as soon as possible while still trapped, “Modi tweeted.

4) Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced one ex gratia of 2 lakh Rs each from the Prime Minister’s National Aid Fund to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the landslide. The injured would be given 50,000 rupees each, his office added.

5) Union Interior Minister Shah spoke to Thakur to take stock the situation and instructed the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to give the state government all support in the rescue and relief operations. Thakur informed the congregation that a helicopter would also be arranged for the rescue operation.

6) Among the dead are a two-year-old girl and five womensaid a country spokesman. A dead person has not yet been identified, Mokhta added.

The injured party: The injured were identified as the bus driver Mahinder Pal from Bilaspur; Conductor Gulab Singh von Mandi; Prashant, Varun Menon, Rajender from Hamirpur, Daulat from Kinnaur, Shorang project driver Charan Jeet Singh from Naleenakal in Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab, Saveen Sharma from Nepal, Japti Devi from Rampur in Shimla, Chander Gyan from Pooh in Kinnaur, Arun from Rampur, Anil Kumar and Kaizang Negi from Skibba in Moorang in Kinnaur.

7) The State The disaster control authority had requested NDRF from Nurpur for the search and rescue operation, said Sudesh Kumar Mokhta. County officials, search and rescue teams including members of the local police force, housekeepers, NDRF, ITBP and a medical team were taken to the landslide site. Ten ambulances, four earth-moving machines, 52 employees of the ITBP’s 17th Battalion, 30 police officers and 27 NDRF employees carried out the rescue operation, he added.
