The current strength of the Supreme Court is 24. With nine judges, one judge will remain vacant at the Supreme Court.

Among the recommended names, Righteousness nagarathna could become the country’s first female chief judge for a little over a month – from September 25 to October 29, 2027.

The Supreme Court, established on January 26, 1950, has seen very few female judges since its inception and has appointed only eight female judges for the past 71+ years, starting with M. Fathima Beevi in ​​1989.

Justice Nagarathna was born on October 30, 1962 and is the daughter of the former CJI ES Venkataramiah. She enrolled as a lawyer in Bangalore on October 28, 1987, practicing in “Constitution, Commerce, Insurance and Services, etc.”
