England vs. India, 2nd test day 1: Live results and updates
Rohit defended the first hour and then unleashed a barrage of boundaries to share a record of over 100 opening stands with KL Rahul on a rain-hit opening day of the second Test against England in London. After Rohit had done all the hard work that first hour, he understood the urgency to advance on the scoreboard and broke four limits on Curran’s next over.
This is India’s first-century opening match at Lord’s since Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy’s 106 against England in 1952. This is also the fifth time the opening games have survived 20+ overs in a test outside of Asia. They are also only the third Indian opening couple to have sewn an over 100 booth at Lord’s in Test Cricket.
Previously, the English captain Joe Root won the throw and decided to bowl first in the second test against India at Lord’s, with a rainy season delaying the process. England made three changes to their roster, with Seaman Stuart Broad banned from the rest of the series due to a tear in his right calf, although James Anderson kept his place after negotiating a tight quad.
India has made a change on its side, replacing Ishant Sharma with pacemaker Shardul Thakur, who is suffering from an Achilles tendon injury. Thakur, who took four wickets in the first test, should be fit for the third game at Headingley.
