The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) blew up an international cannabis smuggling operation in Calcutta on Saturday, which is operated by several courier services. The NCB also seized 20 kg of what is believed to be the world’s strongest marijuana, officials said.
The Kolkata NCB Zone Unit found that “special green cannabis” was being smuggled into India from the United States and Canada.
NCB officials arrested three people, including two women, in connection with international drug abuse. The defendants have been identified as Shraddha Surana, 25, Tareena Bhatnagar, 26, and Karan Kumar Gupta, 30.
Based on a reliable report that “high quality green cannabis” was being smuggled into India in bulk via courier services from the US and Canada, the NCB Kolkata unit has been monitoring various service providers in Calcutta for some time, officials said.
Between July 27 and 30, the Narcotics Authority intercepted 42 foreign parcels that were delivered to the Foreign Post Office (FPO) in Calcutta with false declarations of cosmetics, toys and games.
“This marijuana is the most expensive and strongest variety of marijuana in the world and is not available in our country. It is very high in THC [main psychoactive compound in cannabis] Salary of 19 to 25 percent, “said a police officer.
The defendants announced that they used a dark-net web platform to order the packages and have them delivered by courier to avoid being caught by the drug police (DLEO) field officers.
The investigation also found that Shraddha Surana was running the entire drug trafficking operation under the guise of Simran Singh. A fake Aadhar card in Simran Singh’s name was also found in their possession.
While Tareena Bhatnagar was arrested for ordering three narcotics deliveries through Televend, the investigation revealed that Karan Kumar Gupta was a delivery boy who carried out Shraddha Surana’s orders by shipping the packages to multiple locations in Calcutta.
