Mansukh Mandaviya releases first batch of Covaxin from Bharat Biotech’s new plant in Gujarat


Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the first commercial batch of Covaxin on Sunday from Bharat Biotech’s new facility in Ankleshwar, Gujarat.

Mansukh Mandaviya said, “India is focused on slowing the spread of Covid-19 in the country and the key to that is delivering vaccines quickly and efficiently. We want to ensure fair access to the vaccine for every Indian citizen, and the expansion of Covaxin production facilities by Bharat Biotech will bring us closer to this goal. “

The health minister went to Twitter to discuss the importance of the vaccination campaign in fighting the pandemic and said the launch will “increase the availability of vaccines in the country and help reach every Indian with the vaccine”.

At the launch, Mansukh Mandaviya said production of Covaxin has started at the Ankleshwar facility and a billion vaccines are being shipped monthly from Bharat Biotech’s new facility.

In May, Bharat Biotech announced its plan to Increase vaccine production to 1 billion doses per year. With this goal in mind, the company had announced that it would now also produce Covaxin in a production facility in Ankleshwar in Gujarat.

The jabs manufactured at the Ankleshwar plant will be available from September 2021.

About India’s readiness to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, Mansukh Mandaviya said: “Ambulances must already be rented at block level, 1 crore medication must be procured at district level,” and added: “Money is also provided for hospital beds.”

The Minister of Health also said about 10,000 kg of oxygen will be collected and tanks will be procured to help the nation fight the pandemic.
