Mathura police filed an FIR after some people threatened a Muslim dosa seller and destroyed his shopping cart because his shop was named after a Hindu deity.

A video clip of the incident posted on social media showed the men pulling down the plaque that read “Shrinath Dosa Corner”.

One of the men said that Hindus were mistakenly coming to his booth to eat. Another man was heard in the alleged video asking the Dosa seller why he was not using a Muslim name for the stand.

The group also sang a slogan calling for “Krishna devotees” to “purify” Mathura.

The police registered a case on Saturday under sections 427 (damage) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Criminal Code against strangers.

“Dissuasive measures are being taken against the lawbreakers,” said SP city Martand Prakash Singh, adding that the hunt for the accused was ongoing.
