Several opposition leaders, including 100 congressmen, met with Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday for a breakfast meeting in New Delhi to decide on a common strategy to tackle the Modi government on the Pegasus snooping issue.
In the Breakfast meeting at the Constitution ClubRahul Gandhi said, “In my opinion, the most important thing is that we unite this force. The more this voice (of the people) unites, the more powerful this voice becomes, the more difficult it becomes for BJP-RSS to suppress it. “
In addition to around 100 members of the Congress, leaders of several opposition parties including Trinamool Congress, were present at the meeting. TMC had previously skipped the previous meetings convened by Rahul Gandhi.
NCP, Shiv Sena, CPI-M, CPI, RJD and the leaders of the Samajwadi Party were also present at the meeting along with the leaders of JMM, JKNC, IUML, RSP, KCM and RSP.
However, BSP and AAP leaders remained absent.
In addition to Rahul Gandhi, the high-ranking congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh were present at the meeting.
The meeting takes place amid an ongoing stalemate between the Opposition and government over the Pegasus Sniffing problem with the opposition, who are demanding a discussion in parliament and an investigation supervised by the Supreme Court.
The government has claimed that this is not an issue and does not want it to be discussed in parliament.
Earlier, TMC MP Derek O’Brien had said: “You should start with the national security issue and Pegasus in the presence of the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary. There is full approval of all opposition parties. We’re on the same page. So, the BJP with their dirty tricks shouldn’t screw it up. “
Opposition leaders aside, former governor and senior BJP leader Kaptan Singh Solanki also advocated an investigation into the Pegasus sniff, saying both sides should understand their responsibilities as elected representatives and allow debate in parliament.
