The Pakistani federal cabinet has decided to open Prime Minister Imran Khan’s official residence in the rental market for cultural and educational events to support the country’s scarce economy.

The official residence of the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Red Zone of Islamabad is now rented. The Pakistani federal cabinet made a final decision on this on Tuesday.
The move is touted as a measure to raise funds for the country suffering from lack of money. In fact, the Pakistani federal cabinet has decided that Prime Minister’s Office for culture, fashion, education and other events.
Two committees have been set up to ensure that “discipline and decency” at the prime minister’s residence are not violated during the events, Samaa TV reported.

In August 2019, the Imran Khan government in Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced that it would convert the prime minister’s residence into a state-of-the-art federal educational institution.
The ruling government in Pakistan had also declared that governors would no longer stay in governor’s houses in order to break away from the colonial tradition and at the same time save high costs. The money saved by these measures could instead be used for welfare programs, the Pakistani government said.
That was also the same time Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan left his official residence in Islamabad and moved to one of his houses in Bani Gala.
Interestingly, the official residence of the Pakistani Prime Minister was rented out in 2019 for the wedding reception of Brigadier Waseem Iftikhar Cheema’s daughter. Prime Minister Imran Khan was also seen at the ceremony.
Pakistani Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood said at the time that it would cost 470 million rupees to maintain the prime minister’s official residence in Islamabad. That is why Prime Minister Imran Khan vacated the official seat, Mehmood had claimed.
In September 2018, the PTI government in Pakistan had sold 23 lakhs after auctioning eight buffalo in the Prime Minister’s House, which were kept by Imran Khan’s predecessor Nawaz Sharif.
The Pakistani government also auctioned 61 luxury cars earlier this year to raise funds for the country’s scarce economy.
